3 Principles For Overcoming Fitness Obstacles
If you're like me, the quest to stay fit
and handle the weight feels incredible. And, as if seeking to be in shape is
not difficult enough, there are often other obstacles to overcome: health
problems, time management, value gathering or energy.
Even if you have exercised for a long
time, there are always new obstacles to breaking up. So how do we put this
into perspective?
According to Tom Turner, the executive
link for the Spina Bifida Association is exactly the following: Perspective.
And, according to him, there is no high mountain to climb. Tom would know.
Paralyzed from birth, it is now 35 years
old and forms about three times a week. In fact, he told me that he could not
get along without an exercise.
So, in my quest for the last word on
barriers to fitness, Tom sat with me and together we developed 3 basic
principles that will help reduce fears and intimidation as we strive to achieve
fitness goals.
(After all, if he can exercise regularly,
should not he be encouraging enough for someone to give him a chance?)
Principle #
1 Move with fear.
"Train yourself to believe that a
mountain is not too high or that any goal is too difficult to reach," Tom
said. Basically, it is about responding to your fears and facing them head-on.
In this principle, the goal is to
recognize their fears, recognize them and then cross them. Ask yourself what
makes you uncomfortable? Did you lose your way and are you afraid of never
coming back?
Do you have a wound that made you fear
your body? If you can visualize creatively, you can put your fears under
control.
See for yourself how you wish. Remember:
your body loves you and has the potential to heal to perfection. Your only job
is to trust and listen.
Q: What is your body that tells you?
Principle #
2 Trust your intuition.
It is important to overcome obstacles and
learn to overcome obstacles as you begin to hear the still small voice of your
body. In most cases, we all want to have the pleasure of asking someone to tell
us what we can and can not do.
However, our highest truth is in us. This
does not mean that good opinion of others is not important, but ultimately
decision-making comes from within.
When you face a challenge or an obstacle,
watch how you feel. What are your instincts that tell you?
It is often simply your instinct that will
lead you to a new mindset and your awareness. "I was not going to let the
wheelchair get in my way," Tom said. In fact, he said that he simply had
to change his point of view on this.
He says he must first know what his
restrictions are, create a limit for himself. "We all have limits,"
he told me. "It does not matter if a person can walk or not, the obstacles
are as unique as the people themselves, so it is better to know their limits."
So Tom tells me he wants to reach these
limits. "I get as far as I can within the limits of what I can do: whether
it's more sets, repeaters or more resistance, I'm always surprised, with small
steps, how fast I can achieve a great goal."
Principle 3
Do not go soft on this good night.
What, then, about fear? I wanted to know.
If we enter into fear and look at it to see if fear meets there?
"So," I asked Tom, "are you afraid?" After 19 operations in
my life, I really accepted fear, "he says. It comes down to our most
primary fear; Fear of death.
Once you realize that death is part of the
divine plan, it is liberating, you can abandon it and, on the contrary, choose
the way of life. So, instead of being afraid of death, I decided to choose the
way of life.
So what is the message to carry? Speaking
of Tom, I remember the poem by Dylan Thomas who said, "Do not be sweet on
this good night." It seems appropriate here.
The bottom line: Keeping fear often
prevents us from living. Tom reminds me that a positive attitude is the key:
"Life is a matter of attitude".
He also says he could let fear hit him,
but he does not. "I do not want to be part of tomorrow," he
concluded. That said, what fears do you have? Make the right time to face them
today.
In
conclusion: life beyond borders.
When have you faced your fears and pushed
your boundaries to the edges, then? I wanted to know.
Tom smiled. "Find a new mountain to
climb," he said seriously. "I know there will be days when I have to
stay in bed and rest while my devices are being developed. At that moment I am
of the opinion that I decide what I am going to look at.
Author's Note: In my personal quest to
live beyond the limits, I chose Tom as my model (lucky for me, he is my
brother).
We often see the media for these sources
and are often illusory. There are "real" people everywhere who do
good things ... they look around; Angels are everywhere!
Learn from them. Choose someone who is
looking for, admire or value your values. Set your goals, climb the mountains!
Define intention in motion and enjoy a healthy process.
